Rumour: Joey Joining on a free?

The biggest joke of a football club in England, Newcastle United, have this week announced that star midfielder Joey Barton will be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Barton is a lifelong Everton fan and talkSPORT reporter Graham Courtney claims that Everton are interested in bringing the player to Goodison Park.

A move would likely split the Goodison faithful as fans weigh up his on the field merits against his many off the field controversies. Everton are also said to be facing stiff competition for the player, with Stoke, Arsenal, Tottenham and even Manchester United all said to be interested.

The 28-year old, who scored four Premier League goals last season, launched a tirade at the Newcastle board on his Twitter page, a move which resulted in him being made to train alone today (above).

StickyToffee Verdict: Whilst there's no doubting that Barton is a decent player, there is also no doubting that he causes trouble wherever he goes. Being back in his home city could spell disaster. And besides, it's not like central midfield is a position we need to strengthen in: Fellaini, Heitinga, Neville, Arteta, Osman, Cahill and Barkley are all capable of playing there.
